The Adventures of Hermana Patten: Part 7
Hey friends!
I hope your lives are all so so good :) and if you haven't already, I would still love it if you sent me your favorite scriptures from the Book of Mormon! I love seeing them and getting to hear a little from y'all!
This week we talked to the police!! We saw a fight break out at the foodbank we were serving at and the police were called and we were witnesses! They took down our names and recorded our story and everything, it was crazy!
Besides that, nothing too crazy happened. Here's a couple highlights:
- I made the worst cookies I've ever made in my life... don't worry we didn't deliver those ones.
- MORMON CRICKETS ARE HUGE AND GROSS AND DISGUSTING. I find it ironic that I've never seen one until now (given that I grew up in Utah) but they're everywhere here and can I just say... EW!
- We had a fiesta with our rama (branch) that was a potluck and someone brought taco lasagna to share... it was SO good. We also played games and watched the good samaritan video and it was super fun :)
- The other day we were knocking doors and it was so hot, but then it started to rain. Like real rain!! It felt so good and there was a rainbow and everything... God's hand was definitely there in that, it definitely lifted our spirits!
- Lots of lessons... good and less good. We had a really good one about faith with the cutest family, like I swear the little boy is straight up an angel. He said his favorite thing of the summer so far was going to his friend's house to read the bible and he wanted to say the opening AND closing prayer. Literally so wholesome, I want to be him when I grow up. We also had a lesson we went to with the elders who share our branch where we sang "Más Cerca Dios de Ti" (Nearer My God to Thee) and shared a scripture. This man straight up brought a keyboard into people houses to accompany us! Then we helped one lady fix her curtains, which was a mess. She was talking very fast about not gospel words and everyone was so confused about what she wanted and even my companion (a native spanish speaker) was lost. It was quite humorous. We shared the same song and scripture with another friend, and then he told us he "didn't want to hear nothing about John Smith" but that we could come by and talk about Jesus whenever we wanted. We also talked a lot about a bunch of other random stuff and
it was pretty weird but oh well such is life.
Thought of the week- Mosiah 24:14 "And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions."
Sometimes, God isn't going to answer our prayers the way we want Him to. Sometimes, God isn't going to take our trials away. Sometimes, we have to keep pushing through our hard times, having faith and trusting. BUT always, God will be there with us. He will help us and make our burdens lighter if we let him.
I love you all and God loves you all, have a great week!
Con mucho amor,
Hermana Patten
