The Adventures of Hermana Patten: Part 10

 Hey everyone!!

I hope your weeks were absolutely phantasmagorical. I know mine was!
- Last Monday, we played the most epic game of kickball as a district. It was 100 million degrees and me and the district leader were talking smack (all fun and games, dont worry) so they made us be on a team by ourselves. We still won. Mostly. Today for pday we get to go on a hike and I am absolutely over the moon excited. I'll let you know how it is next week.
- BLESSING. Basically, my retainer broke. We went to a dentist out in spring creek and they took a new mold (if you've never had to do this, count your blessings, it tastes disgusting and just triggers your gag reflex... yay). We went to the front, and I was prepared to pay like $200 to get it fixed but they said that it was going to be free! It was a huge miracle :)
- We painted some Libro de Mormóns with members and it was super fun. Then we went to English class and my comp made fried oreos. They're basically just diabetes on steroids but they're soooooo good.
- We talked with this lady who basically just wanted to bash but because of my lack of Spanish skills I was so oblivious. Looking back, it's kind of funny, but in the moment I was actually trying to answer her questions because I thought they were sincere! Hermana Rivera said she was just talking herself in circles and trying to confuse everyone, but it was good anyways😂
- We went to young womens with one of our friends and it was absolutely epic. We had Brazilian food and learned all about Brazil (one of the English speaking missionaries is from there and it's the coolest thing ever)
- We won Elko Olympics!! The challenge was to see who could get the most pictures with members and our district knocked it out of the park!! It was absolutely epic.
- We got a referral from the YSA (young single adult ward) elders. You want to know what they put his name as? Spanish Dude #1. Apparently it's really hard to ask haha but it's okay we went over and met him and he's a mega cool dude. AND THE GIFT OF TONGUES IS REAL. I understood every single word he said! Doesn't mean I knew how to respond, but it was still so cool to see it.
- Gift of tongues pt. 2 : we showed up to teach one of our friends (this lady has been seeing missionaries for 15 years and is so so amazing!) We were going to talk about baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost, but before we even started talking she told us that she wanted to be baptized, and she knew it was something she needed to do. It took a second for her words to load in my mind but I know that God helped me understand way faster than I normally would have, and then we were able to help her! We don't have a date set yet because we're trying to figure things out with her son (he got baptized a couple months ago and if possible she wants him to baptize her) but I'm so so excited for her!! She basically bore her testimony to us and it was one of the strongest times I've felt the spirit in my life. Missions are awesome!
- Apparently I'm a wedding planner now. Me and Hermana Rivera found an officiator and made a bunch of decorations for one of our members weddings tonight!! We also helped make about 7 billion tamales (which was also so cool to learn how to do... don't think I could do it by myself but now I'm at least slightly knowledgeable). Anyways, it's gonna be epic. There's so much joy right now!!
Spiritual thought of the week: "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" - Psalm 27:1
When we let Jesus Christ be the light and strength of our lives, there is literally no reason at all that we should be afraid. He overcame all things and has so much power that He is desperate to use on our behalf, we just have to allow Him!! I know He loves us all so much and wants us to be happy :) Never ever forget!!
I love you all so so much and I hope you have the best weeks ever!!
Paz Fuera,
Hermana Patten
Pictures:
1) vibes after the rain
2) weekly mission correlation meeting with the elders and our mission leader!
3) golden hour or something I guess
4) us and Sister Wanlass! She's basically the self declared mission mom who brings people treats at random moments and for their birthdays. Saturday, she brought us rootbeer floats!! She's awesome :)
