The Adventures of Hermana Patten: Part 9

 Hey friends!

This week was a little bit of an emotional roller coaster. Last Monday, my mom told me that my  puppy died and that was really hard for me. On top of that, so many people cancelled lessons and we got a flat tire. HOWEVER the tender mercies of the Lord are great!! We also saw so so many good things and miracles this week!
- Yesterday at sacrament meeting, our chapel was fuller than I think I've ever seen it! One of our friends who we weren't expecting came, along with an inactive member we met this week who hasn't been to church for at least the four years she's been in Elko! I was so happy when I saw them that I felt like my heart was going to burst, it's so hard to put into words.
- We didn't get T-boned at a stoplight, so that was amazing amazing amazing! We were about to turn (our light was very much green, don't worry) but me and my comp both had the feeling to pause for a second, so we did. And then this giant red SUV comes whipping through the intersection, speeding of course, on the reddest light of all time! It was scary and I know if we hadn't stopped (even thought we had the right of way) we could have gotten pretty seriously hurt.
- The stars here in Elko are so pretty and amazing!
- We got to go to a baptism! The spirit was so sweet and the girl was so happy and I loved it :)
- The Elders made us try gnocchi for the first time. It was actually pretty good, just threw me off that they looked like maggots. Let me know your thoughts?
- The flat tire thing was also actually pretty fun because we got to ride bikes! I'm not sure how thrilled my comp was about it (jk I'm very sure... she was not a fan) but I had a blast!! 
- Also we made delicious carne asada with the english sisters for dinner one night... absolutely epic.
Other randoms things that happened:
- Some random guy we met on the street tried to set me up with his bosses son... it was so awkward.
- We unloaded a Uhaul and afterwards, couldnt figure out how to get out of the storage locker! We were stuck for a solid 5-10 minutes until the employee finally took pity on us and let us out.
- Hermana Rivera hit me with a car while I was backing her up. Don't worry, it was a baby bump. Everyone is unharmed and this is mostly a joke, I just bully her all the time for it.
Anyways, that's about it for this week! For a spiritual thought I want to share a quote my mom sent me from the Prophet Jospeh Fielding Smith. It says, "So we see that the Lord intends to save... not only man... but all things which he has created. The animals... as well as man, are to be recreated... through the resurrection for they too are living souls". If you're missing someone or something right now, know that it will all be made right in the end because of the mercies and love and sacrifices of our Father in Heaven and our big brother :) They both love us so so much and are with us always!!

  Hola Amigos!! I am officially in Mexico!! (and have been for a week now lol) It is SO pretty here and it rains ALL THE TIME which makes me so so happy. The thunderstorms are insane and ahhh it makes my little Utah desert heart muy feliz.  This week started off with some miracles: 1) I SLEPT ON THE PLANE TO DALLAS. This is literally the biggest accomplishment of my whole entire life and the biggest blessing. I know it was by the grace of God that it happened because I have never ever slept on a plane or in a car or barely even in my bed oops. The Adventures of Hermana Patten: Part 4

  Ah hola amigos!! Today marks one month as a missionary, which kind of just seems crazy to me. Time is flying by and I've never been happier!  Sooooo much crazy stuff happened this week. I'll start with the non-spiritual haha. 1) We did service in the lavanderia (laundromat) and I learned how to fold a fitted sheet!! I think it's funny that I had to come all the way to Mexico to learn but I definitely feel cooler now. 2) The water in our bathroom started coming out purple... needless to say we did not drink it. 3) The bugs are trying to eat me alive. Bug spray: 0. Mosquitos: 9. They even got my knuckle, which is just plain annoying. 4) Fourth of July!! The cafeteria staff spoiled us with a full on american meal: hotdogs and hamburgers, the cutest red white and blue jello, cookies, potato chips and potato salad, and soda! The Adventures of Hermana Patten: Part 5

  Hola amigos!  I hope you all had the most fantastic week ever!  ALSO EVERYONE SEND ME YOUR FAVORITE SCRIPTURE IN THE BOOK OF MORMON (someone had the idea to highlight all the favorite verses of all my favorite people and that includes all of you). My week was un poco loco but was so so good! - One of our teachers got COVID which was a fat rip buttt our sub was so fun. I don't know how much I learned but we did so many relay races that I'm probably ready for the olympics. We also did a blindfolded trust exercise where my companions let me run into a cement wall. Go figure. Don't worry, no lasting damage and Hermana Sanchez (our original teacher) is back now. - We played SO much volleyball. Honestly, I'm probably ready for the olympic volleyball team as well. Only downside was the ball to the face that made my mouth bleed (again, don't worry, no lasting damage). - Played the piano in the mega devotional, didn't die.
